Audition for the 2024-2025 Season

The National Lutheran Choir roster is made up of volunteer singers from all walks of life with a wide range of ages, occupations, family situations, and musical experiences.

Auditioning for the NLC is a multi-step process used to select the best singers for NLC’s needs and community at the time of auditions. All singers audition each year, and this year’s auditions will be held in person at Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina, MN. (Auditionees who live 100+ miles from the Twin Cities and are not able to attend in-person auditions should complete an audition form and email NLC Operations Manager, Kris Rongstad (she/her), at kris@nlca.com to inquire about alternative arrangements.)

Initial Auditions will be held during the day on April 27th and the evenings of April 29th, April 30th, May 7th and May 20th. 
Call Back Auditions will be held on May 21st during the evening.

Reasonable accommodations will be made to ensure that anyone can audition and that those invited to the roster can fully participate.

STEP 1: Review the NLC Schedule

Please review our tentative schedule for the 2024-2025 season before auditioning and submit any known conflicts at your audition.

STEP 2: Initial Audition

C. Watch for an email message confirming your audition time.

The audition will consist of

• A Prepared Piece - Sing a prepared art song, or other sacred or secular solo. An accompanist will be provided, so please bring an extra copy of your music. 

• Vocal Exercises - The Artistic Director will lead you through various vocal exercises to assess your vocal range, color and flexibility, sight reading ability, the ability to vary dynamic and style, and general musicality. 

  The audition will be approximately 10-15 minutes in length.

Audition Location: Normandale Lutheran Church (6100 Normandale Rd., Edina, MN 55436) - Entrances are located on both the east and west sides of the building. Accessible parking spaces and elevators are available.

STEP 3: Call Back Auditions

Select singers will be invited by the Artistic Director to continue the audition process and attend Call Back auditions. Call back auditions will be completed with other singers from the same voice part and will take place at Normandale Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 21st:

• 6:30pm – 7:00pm – Sopranos

• 7:10pm – 7:40pm – Altos

• 7:50pm – 8:20pm – Tenors

• 8:30pm – 9:00pm – Basses

STEP 4: Invitation to Join the National Lutheran Choir for the 2024-2025 Season

Singers who are invited to join the National Lutheran Choir will co-sign a covenant with the Artistic Director. This letter states that you’ll commit to the schedule of rehearsals and performances and clarifies any known conflicts to which the Artistic Director and you have agreed.
