Sanctus: Spirit of Music (with Cantus)

Joining the National Lutheran Choir will be nationally acclaimed choir Cantus for a program of music which moves the spirit with its power alone.  Rachmaninoff's Vocalise has mystical power with an almost inexplicable effect and will be performed by the two groups combined.  Movements of Rachmaninoff's All Night Vigil will also be performed, as well as music by Randall Thompson, Ralph Manuel, spiritual settings and a worldless vocal piece which will be almost entirely improvisatory.  Experience this joining together of heaven and earth sparked by these two highly cherished yet "national" performing organizations.

25th Anniversary Concert

A great many of the National Lutheran Choir's singers are products of the strong musical traditions embedded in the Midwest's Lutheran colleges.  To mark the 25th Anniversary, we invite a cohort of our singers' mentors to conduct the ensemble.  Guest conductors Anton Armstrong (St. Olaf), Craig Arnold, Gregory Aune (Gustavus Adolphus), Rene Clausen (Concordia-Morrhead), Peter Hendrickson (Augsburg), James Johnson (Augustana), and David Mennicke (Concordia-St. Paul) each take their turn at the podium, leading the National Lutheran Choir in works they have chosen especially for the choir.  Don't miss this wonderful event celebrating mentors, milestones, and music.  A reception follows the joyful singing!

Heaven and Earth Sing Gloria! Christmas Festival (Minneapolis)

All creation joins the song of the angels greeting the birth of Christ.  Not just in memory of an event more than two-thousand years ago, but every day, every place, at all times.  Our annual Christmas festival is a seamless flow combining beautiful choral music of the season, poetry and carol singing in two of this country's most awe-inspiring spaces.  This year's festival includes a brand-new work by John Tavener, Ex Maria Virgine, many portions of which have not yet been performed in the United States.  Hear additional music by Glinka, Rachmaninoff, Ahlen, Tiefenbach, Carter, Thorson, and others.  The choir will also perform this program twice at Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis, MO.
