Wittenberg Award Presented to National Lutheran Choir

The Board of Directors of the Luther Institute has unanimously authorized the presentation of a Wittenberg Award to the National Lutheran Choir.

The Wittenberg Awards were established in 1990 to recognize Lutheran laity and clergy from around the world for distinguished service to church and society, and, in so doing, to encourage others to accept the call to service and servant leadership.

Previous organizational winners of the Wittenberg Award include Lutheran World Relief and the Saint Olaf Choir.

Choral Composition Competition

The National Lutheran Choir (NLC) is celebrating its 25th season in 2010-2011.  One aspect of the NLC mission is to support choral composers and the art of sacred choral music.  In keeping with its mission, the NLC is sponsoring this Choral Composition Competition in celebration of our 25th season.  The winning composition will be performed at the season’s culminating concert in May 2011.  The composition may be considered for publication by MorningStar Music Publishers as part of the NLC Choral series.  The winner will be awarded a $2,000 cash prize, with the possibility of two honorable mentions at $500/each.
