Bearing the Promise

The Christmas Festival turns toward the figures of Mary and the Christ child: not only mother and son, but prophet and fulfillment, bearer of justice and its incarnation, vessel of disruption and the disruption itself. Her song, the Magnificat, becomes a lens for reconciliation — the lifting of the lowly, the reordering of power — and points toward the one in whom that hope takes fragile human form.
